Seguin Gazette: TLU nursing program ranks 15th in state
Texas Lutheran University recently received top recognition for its nursing program.
RegisteredNursing.org ranked TLU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program 15th out of 50 in the state of Texas as part of its 3rd Annual State RN Program Rankings.
“This ranking from registerednursing.org speaks to the quality of education and preparedness TLU Nursing students receive,” TLU Director of Marketing and Communications Ashlie Ford said. “NCLEX scores are a direct reflection of a nursing program’s success and overall faculty efforts. As this program continues to grow, we know that students who pursue nursing at TLU are being taught by an exemplary group of professors who place student success as their top priority.”
For Texas’ rankings, nearly 119 nursing programs were analyzed and only 50 of them were ranked.
“We are firm believers in providing students with all the information possible to make the right choice when selecting a nursing school,” RegisteredNursing.org’s website said. “With this in mind, we feel a great way to provide this transparency would be through studying nursing programs and their students’ performance on the NCLEX-RN exam.”
RegisteredNursing.org takes the NCLEX-RN exam pass rates, which are used to assess a student’s competency, from between 2014 and 2018. After, they go through all the programs to see which ones have closed or will be closing; through the ones with no pass rate data available from the last two years; and through the programs with only one year of pass rates.
Once the programs are narrowed down, RegisteredNursing.org begins the ranking.
“Schools’ pass rates were averaged together and weighted by the recency of the exam, for example, exam pass rates in 2018 count more towards overall rankings than scores from 2014,” the website said.
Students in TLU’s nursing program are a part of an average class size of 30 students or less and are given opportunities to train in hands-on “state-of-the-art stimulation labs as well as receive clinical experience in area hospitals and health care facilities.
