Managing the electrical infrastructure!
The Electric Department maintains all street and security lights, provides the construction needed to extend electrical service to new customers and all Capital improvement projects. They perform maintenance on 120 miles of overhead electric lines, 25 miles of underground electric lines, and three substations. Safety services provided by the Electric Department include trimming trees from power lines and repairing damage to the electrical distribution lines and poles.
The City of Seguin Utilities Department maintains 8,500 Electric and 8,000 Water meters throughout the City. We test 280 Commercial Meters and 400 Residential Meters every year and maintain the SCADA System for the Substations and the AMR System and create over 20,000 work orders a year. We maintain 2.3 million dollars of inventory for the Electrical System and 150,000 for the Water and Waste Water System.
The City of Seguin has been working on ESRI Mapping system for a number of years now and we have implemented a new mobile mapping system, which helps employees locate and respond to Electric outages faster. We are working with a new mobile Service Order System allowing all Crew leaders and Servicemen to work off iPads in the field. This improvement has cut out most of all the paperwork and created a quicker response time, delivering better customer service. The mapping system is available to contractors to help them locate all of our Utilities.
