Capital Projects

Capital Projects:  Those which relate to constructing or improving the City's infrastructure, which results in the creation or enhancement of an existing infrastructure asset. 

123 BUSINESS (AUSTIN STREET) RECONSTRUCTION & IMPROVEMENT
The project area is from IH 10 to the Union Pacific Railroad and is under the design and construction direction of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).  Improvements include a storm sewer system, lowering of the existing street profile (elevation), widening the street pavement section to include a continuous left turn lane, sidewalk and bicycle amenities. Construction is in progress.

HIDALGO & ROOSEVELT UTILITY AND STREETS IMPROVEMENT
Under design by Freese and Nichols, the project includes water, sewer, storm drainage and street improvements.  The project areas are Hidalgo Street from Kingsbury to New Braunfels and Roosevelt Street from Austin to Woodland.  The project is tentatively scheduled to bid in the 2nd quarter of 2018.
KING STREET & SPRUCE STREET UTILITY AND STREETS IMPROVEMENT
Under design by RPS Klotz & Associates, the project area is located from Pine Street to the Union Pacific Railroad.  The project includes storm drainage improvements and approximately 2,750 linear feet of street improvements.  The project is tentatively scheduled to bid in the 2nd quarter of 2018.
RIO NOGALES DRIVE EXTENSION
The project will connect Rio Nogales Drive to the newly constructed IH 10 frontage access roads.  The project has been award to D & S Concrete Contractors and is in progress.   
RIVER-SAN MARCOS-HEIDEKE (RSMH) - PHASE II
Designed by TRC, the project will include storm drainage improvements, electric, water and sewer upgrades and sidewalk amenities.  The project area is from Court Street to Kingsbury Street. Construction has been awarded to Atlas Construction.  Contruction is in progress.
RUDELOFF ROAD - PHASE I (SH 46 to Huber - East of Softball Fields)
Awarded to the City through the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and funded through the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).  The project includes widening the road to four (4) lanes, street, drainage and sidewalk improvements.  Engineering has been awarded to Brown & Gay Engineering. Design, environmental and acquisition is anticipated for 2018 and construction in 2019.  
SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS - PARK WEST (VAUGHAN AVENUE AND SAN ANTONIO AVENUE)
The City has been awarded funding through TxDOT as part of the Alamo Area MPO.  The project area is North Vaughan Avenue to San Antonio Avenue to Guadalupe Street.  Designed by TRC, the project will include 5' of concrete sidewalk and handicap ramps.  The project has been awarded to Qro Mex Construction and construction is in progress.
STREMPEL ROAD STREET & UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS
Under design by TRC, the project will include drainage, water and street improvements.  The project area is on Strempel Road between Business 123 to State Highway 123.  The project has been awarded to Cox Commercial Construction and construction is in progress.
TEXAS CAPITAL FUND 2018 DOWNTOWN SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS
Awarded funding from the Texas Department of Agriculture for the Texas Capital Main Street Program and designed by staff, the project consists of ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant sidewalk improvements on select segments of South Camp Street, East Nolte Street, West Nolte Street, East Washington Street, West Washington Street and South River Street, all located within the Historic District.  The projects has been awarded to D & S Concrete Contractors.  Construction start is April 2018.
TOR DRIVE RECONSTRUCTION & IMPROVEMENT
The City has been awarded funding through TxDOT as part of the Alamo Area MPO.  The project area is Business 123 to State Highway 123.  Designed by Brown & Gay Engineering, the project includes street improvements to east and west lanes including a continuous left turn lane, bike lanes and sidewalk amenities. The project has been awarded to Dean Word Company, LTD. Construction is in progress.   
WALNUT SPRINGS TRAIL - PHASE II
The City has been awarded funding through TxDOT as part of the Alamo Area MPO.  The project area extends the Walnut Springs Trail from the Ruby P. Vaughan Bridge on Convent Street south to Max Starcke Park East.  The trail will include a sub-grade crossing under the South Austin bridge.  Design in progress by TRC.  Construction completion is tentative for 2020.
