[ARCHIVED] Public Invited to Grand Opening of Bauer Park

Bauer Park Grand Opening

SEGUIN, Texas – The City of Seguin invites the community to celebrate the re-opening of Bauer Park, located at 707 E. College Street, on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Mayor Donna Dodgen, Seguin City Council Members and city leaders will cut the ribbon at 10 am, signifying the official opening of the new park amenities that were added for public use.

New amenities and park improvements include a large inclusive playscape, covered picnic pavilion, four fitness stations, additional park benches, and a sidewalk circle around the playscape. A drinking fountain and irrigation system to re-establish the grass will also be added soon.

The $690,000 worth of park improvements were largely made possible by America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, approved by Seguin City Council. Three inclusive playground pieces and two park benches were funded by generous donations from Caterpillar, Niagara Bottling, and the Guadalupe County MHMR Agency.

The Seguin Public Library made its home in Bauer Park from 1965 until 2016, at which time the new library was constructed at 313 W. Nolte. In 2018, the old library building was demolished, and the property re-claimed as parkland with a perimeter sidewalk added for walking/fitness purposes. Bauer Park was originally established in 1910 and is Seguin’s first dedicated public park.

The Parks, Recreation Open Space and Trails Master Plan, approved by Seguin City Council in 2020, included updating Bauer Park with new amenities as there was not a park space for families to enjoy east of North Austin Street.

Jack Jones, Director Parks and Recreation said, “The residents that live near Bauer Park lost an amenity when the old library was relocated so it was necessary, based on public feedback at the time, to bring back to the neighborhood an active park for residents and families to enjoy.”
