[ARCHIVED] Fundraiser Slated for Seguin City Council Member

Sonia Mendez Benefit

SEGUIN, Texas – The City of Seguin is asking the community to unite in support of a Seguin City Council Member who is battling a debilitating illness.

A fundraiser will be held from 11:30 am to 2 pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Seguin Coliseum benefiting District 2 City Council Member Sonia Mendez, who has served residents since 2020. All proceeds raised will help defray medical expenses for Council Member Mendez.

BBQ brisket and sausage plates with all the trimmings will be sold for $15. Plates will be served starting at 11:30 am for dine-in or to go. There will also be a bake sale.

Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa will perform during the event.

A silent auction and a series of raffles will also be conducted. Items being raffled include a guided fishing trip, guns, a 50-inch Smart TV, 4 tickets to a San Antonio Spurs home game, a Charcoal Grill & Smoker, a $500 Visa gift card and more. Waste Connections graciously donated the TV, Spurs tickets and BBQ grill/smoker. Winners will be announced from 1:30 to 2 pm.

Raffle tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. Tickets for both BBQ plates and the raffle can be purchased during regular business hours at Seguin City Hall from either the City Secretary’s Office or from the Finance Office.

“Sonia is an amazing public servant and has helped many, and now it is our turn to give back to her, said Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen.  “This is what Seguin does - 'help each other' - and I know the community will come out to help and support her.  We take care of each other because We Can Do It...Together!,” said Mayor Dodgen.

An account for Mendez has been established at First United Bank in Seguin for those wishing to make monetary donations. Venmo donations can also be made to @Sonia-Mendez-23312.
