Citizens Police Academy

Residents who want to gain a better understanding about the Seguin Police Department are encouraged to participate in the Seguin Police Department's Citizens Police Academy.

This 11-week academy teaches citizens how police officers, telecommunication staff and support personnel protect citizens and prevent crime. Students will interact with the Chief of Police, patrol officers, narcotics investigators, detectives, telecommunicators and K-9 units. Police personnel will provide instruction in ethics, communications, narcotics, officer safety, patrol, traffic stops, Driving While Intoxicated/Impaired (DWI), use of force, handcuffing, building searches and SWAT activities.

A tour of the Juvenile Probation Center and the Guadalupe County Jail will take place during the academy. The final class will include a trip to the SPD training facility (gun range), giving participants an opportunity to learn gun safety and the basics of firing weapons. Citizens will also have an opportunity to ride along with a patrol officer (two time minimum) during the academy session.

Upon completion of all classes, students will participate in a graduation ceremony and receive certificates. The Citizens Police Academy is free and participants will be provided an academy shirt.
