Max "Buck" Bergfeld

City Marshal

1925 - 1972

CITY MARSHAL: Max "Buck" Bergfeld was first elected as the City Marshal for the Seguin of Seguin in 1925. Buck Bergfeld continued to serve the City of Seguin as City Marshal for 47 years, until his death in August 1972.

Leroy Schneider

Chief of Police

Retired January 31, 1993

FIRST CHIEF OF POLICE: Leroy Schneider started with the Traffic Division in April 1949. Schneider left in December 1950 for military service and returned to the Traffic Division in December 1954. In 1960 Schneider was appointed Captain of the Traffic Division. November 1971, a Charter revision was approved by voters, which officially created the Department of Police. Leroy Schneider therefore became the first Chief of Police of the Seguin Police Department. Chief Schneider served the Seguin Police Department until his retirement on January 31, 1993.

Gary Hopper

Chief of Police

10 Years

Retired May 31, 2003

SECOND CHIEF OF POLICE: Gary Hopper took over as the second Chief of Police in May 1993. Chief Hopper started his law enforcement career at the Live Oak Police Department where he served for over 15 years. He was the Assistant Chief for Live Oak Police Department before coming to Seguin. Chief Hopper attended the 146th Session of the FBI National Academy in 1986. Chief Hopper served the Seguin Police Department until his retirement on May 31, 2003.

Luis Collazo

Chief of Police

4 1/2 Years

Retired March 2008

THIRD CHIEF OF POLICE: Luis Collazo took over as the third Chief of Police in June 2003. Chief Collazo started his law enforcement career at the Port Arthur Police Department where he served for over 15 years. He then served the Giddings Police Department as Chief of Police for 5 years. Chief Collazo attended the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville. Chief Collazo served the Seguin Police Department until he retired on March 2008.

Kevin Kelso

Chief of Police

FOURTH CHIEF OF POLICE: Kevin Kelso took over as the fourth Chief of Police in August 2008. Chief Kelso started his law enforcement career at the Victoria Police Department where he served for over 20 years. Kelso was the Captain of Operations for the Victoria Police Department before coming to Seguin. Chief Kelso attended the 221st Session of the FBI National Academy in 2005.  Kelso is presently serving the Seguin Police Department as Chief of Police.
