Crime Prevention

One of the most important aspects of police work is crime prevention.

Pro-active crime prevention programs are a key focus.  Seguin Police Officers seek to develop links within the local community, schools, local business and other groups to reduce the incidence and impact of crime. The Seguin Police Departments understands the importance of community partnerships in reducing crime and in providing a safer place to live.

Partnerships are achieved through community based crime prevention programs such as Neighborhood Watch and Residential Safety Surveys.  Community consultation and education are key parts of this process.

National Night Out, sponsored by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TOWN WATCH, is a neighborhood crime and drug prevention event that occurs annually on the first Tuesday in October (in Texas) and is celebrated in every city, town and village in the US. In addition to increasing awareness of crime and drug prevention programs, NNO also strengthens neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships, while sending a message to criminals that "neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime!"

The Seguin Police Department also promotes the "Lock it, Take it, Hide it" program by providing business owners with parking lot signs reminding motorists to protect their belongings by locking their cars, taking their keys with them and hiding vauables from view.

Beyond preventing, investigating and solving crime, the Seguin Police Department offers support and understanding to the victims of crime, their families and friends.
