Providing Full-time Support

The Communications Division serves as a full-time support entity to the Seguin Police Department. Staffed by 11 full-time, civilian dispatchers and one civilian supervisor, each member is equipped with the skills, knowledge and expertise in responding to the needs of the community, providing maximum safety to the police officers and assisting other team-members within the City.

About the Call Center

The call center can become fast-paced, demanding and time critical and requires excellent communication skills, sound judgment and the ability to multitask. The center is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including a computer-aided dispatch system, VHF radio system, Enhanced 911 phone system and a National Crime Computer.

The Enhanced 911 technology not only instantly provides the location address and phone number from where the call was made but also allows cellular phone callers to be located using latitude and longitude coordinates.

The dispatcher is the critical link between the individual in need and the responding officers. Being a member of the Communication Division is extremely rewarding, as each team-member exhibits pride, dedication and integrity as well as top-notch customer service to residents and visitors of Seguin.

HOW TO GET HELP IN AN EMERGENCY

Call 9-1-1 for police, fire and medical emergencies.

When you call for help, what you say is important. Remember to stay calm and speak clearly.

Say what is wrong and the kind of help you need.

Tell the call taker where the emergency is, and give your name and telephone number. Even if you cannot speak, the call taker may be able to tell where you're calling from.

Follow the call taker's instructions and stay on the line until you're told to hang up.

Your 9-1-1 call can save valuable time in an emergency. Know what to do when you call.

MAKE THE RIGHT CALL. CALL 9-1-1 IN EMERGENCIES ONLY.

Some people aren't sure when to call 9-1-1. They call 9-1-1 for reasons other than emergencies. To complain about barking dogs. To ask directions. To report the power is out, or check on road conditions.

Remember that 9-1-1 is for real emergencies - situations when you need police, firefighters or an ambulance in a hurry. When people don't use 9-1-1 properly, they tie up the phone lines and make it hard for others who really need help right away to get through.

Call 9-1-1 -when seconds really do count.
