Young Marines and Mayor Don Keil join together to proclaim Oct. 23-31 Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country, according to drugfreetexas.org. Every year, students, educators and community members wear red ribbons in support of young people living a drug-free lifestyle.
Locally, the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines sponsor the nationwide effort to encourage citizens to commit to saying no to illegal drugs and illegal use of legal drugs.
“Every young marine motivates me to be a role model. I have to earn that title, and keep that title. I want all of us to become the best person we can be,” said Gunnery Sergeant Chandler Dillon, 16 year-old Young Marine.
The proclamation declaring Red Ribbon Week in Seguin encourages the community to wear a red ribbon during the week of Oct. 23 – 31 to demonstrate zero tolerance for alcohol, drug and tobacco use.
