Date: October 07, 2015

SEGUIN, Texas – The police force protecting the City of Seguin is another officer strong. Javier Ruiz received his badge during a ceremony in council chambers Wednesday morning.

Mayor Don Keil conducted the swearing in oath in front of the new officer’s family and a large group Seguin Police Officers.

“This is your new family,” said Mayor Keil pointing to the other police officers sitting in the audience, “We welcome you as the newest member of this dedicated group of officers.”

Chief Kevin Kelso asked Ruiz’ wife to come up and pin the badge on his blue uniform.

“We welcome you to the department. As I tell other new officers, this badge is shiny and untarnished. When your time with us is over, I expect to see this badge, and your reputation as an officer, just as shiny and untarnished,” said Chief Kevin Kelso, SPD.

The badge pinning ceremony has become an important tradition for new officers symbolizing the responsibility of becoming a member of law enforcement.
