For the launch of Seguin's Pecan Fest Heritage Days, Oct 28-30, city and county officials and event organizers are having a ceremonial  "Crackin' of the Nuts" at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct 28.

Visitors to this year's Pecan Fest Heritage Days will be in for a three-day fun-filled family event celebrating area pecan growers and the community's rural heritage. The event takes place at various downtown Seguin venues and at the nearby Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center (Cordova Road & Highway 123, two miles north of Seguin).

The opening  "Crackin' of the Nuts" ceremony includes city and county officials, as well as representatives from participating organizations and H-E-B, is scheduled  at Pape's Pecan Museum Friday. The Orchard is located at 5440 S. Hwy 123, Seguin.

H-E-B has recognized the Seguin area pecan industry by developing a seasonally available Texas Vanilla Seguin Pecan ice cream. In support of Pecan Fest Heritage Days, H-E-B has made an "out of season" batch of the ice cream which will be offered at various venues throughout the festival.

Pecan Fest Heritage Days' purpose is to promote the local economy through tourism and to preserve the community's pecan industry and rich rural heritage. Proceeds from the event benefit a wide variety of community projects.
