Benefits Program

VACATION LEAVE

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for 40 hours of vacation after six months continuous employment. After one year of employment and beyond the following schedule applies:

PERSONAL DAYS

Director-Level positions receive five personal leave days after completing one year of employment.

LONGEVITY PAY

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for longevity pay upon completing three years of continuous service. Police and Fire/EMS certified employees are eligible after one year of continuous service. Longevity pay is made in a lump sum payment equal to $4.00 per month, per year of service, not to exceed $1,200.00 per year.

SICK LEAVE

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for sick leave after six months of continuous employment. Sick leave is earned at the rate of one working day per month. Sick leave may be accumulated to a maximum of 60 working days.

SHARED SICK LEAVE

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for shared leave due to a catastrophic illness or injury after twelve months of continuous employment. Shared leave allows employees the opportunity for salary continuation after their personal leave has been exhausted.

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for employee assistance services the first day of the month following the completion of thirty continuous days of employment.. Located in the Guadalupe Valley Hospital Teaching Center, the Employee Assistance Program allows employees and family members to have 24 hour access to a provider of mental health services, including counseling and educational services.

HOLIDAYS

The City recognizes the following days as official paid holidays for all regular employees:

New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day,  Good Friday,  Memorial Day,  Independence Day,  Labor Day, September 11 (Fire/Ems),  Veteran's Day,  Thanksgiving Day,  Thanksgiving Friday (except Fire/Ems),  Christmas Eve,  Christmas Day,  Floating Day

RETIREMENT

The City of Seguin is a member of the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Membership in the system is compulsory upon employment for all regular employees. The employee's contribution to the system is seven percent of their gross salary. The City matches the employee's contribution on a percentage determined by the City Council.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS

Nationwide Retirement Solutions, Hartford Life and ICMA-RC are deferred compensation programs that allow employees to enjoy a tax savings by reducing his/her taxable income. This is done through payroll deductions.

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Direct deposit allows employees to deposit their pay checks into one account or multiple accounts at various banks.

CREDIT UNION

City employees are eligible for membership in the Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union. The credit union offers competitive interest rates on savings accounts, loans at reasonable rates, etc..

HEALTH & DENTAL INSURANCE

Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by the City's health and dental insurance plan the first day of the month following the completion of thirty continuous days of employment. Dependent coverage is also available, but the employee must pay the dependent premium. (Waiting period waived for Director-Level Positions)

LIFE INSURANCE

Regular, full-time employees are automatically covered by a $25,000 life insurance policy the first day of the month following the completion of thirty days of employment. The City pays the employee premium. (Waiting period waived for Director-Level Positions)

ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT

AD&D is an additional policy of $25,000 for accidental death or loss of an arm, leg, or eyesight. (Waiting period waived for Director-Level Positions)

VOLUNTARY BENEFITS

Regular, full-time employees are eligible for voluntary benefits the first day of the month following the completion of thirty continuous days of employment. Voluntary benefits offered include a cancer plan, group life, universal life, long-term disability, short-term disability,  vision, heart and stroke, and accident plan. The employee pays the premium at a group rate. This is done by payroll deductions.
