Since 1994, the Seguin Economic Development Corporation has worked to promote Seguin as a premiere destination for businesses looking to expand or relocate. Voter created, SEDC receives a portion of Seguin’s sales tax to market Seguin and provide incentives to industries such as manufacturing, biotechnical, distribution, energy and technology. SEDC works with existing companies in Seguin and new businesses that are looking to expand their operations.
Seguin has a lot to offer businesses looking for a new location.
EXISTING INDUSTRY & INFRASTRUCTURE
Seguin is recognized for having the highest manufacturing jobs per capita in the state of Texas, with almost twice the national average manufacturing jobs. Seguin is home to Caterpillar, Cavco Industries, Alamo Industrial, Continental Automotive Systems, Tyson Foods, CMC Steel Texas, Minigrip, Star Manufacturing and Hexcel Corp. just to name a few.
The Seguin Economic Development Corporation works with existing companies to retain them in our community. Recently, the SEDC worked with Continental Automotive Systems on a Business Retention and Expansion effort that totaled $18.5 million in capital investment and brought 600 more jobs to their plant. The project was recognized for being Texas’ largest job retention and expansion in 2009.
Furthermore, Seguin has existing infrastructure to allow for future growth. Through the Schertz-Seguin Local Government Cooperative, the City of Seguin has enough water supply to meet growing demand for generations to come. Seguin has extended its utilities over the last few years, bringing water, electric and sewer to areas ready for future development.
Seguin offers eleven parks with another one scheduled to be completed by mid 2011. The parks offer volleyball courts, baseball fields, a wave pool and an eighteen hole golf course for visitors and citizens. Additionally, the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center recently completed a $100 million renovation and expansion which has doubled the hospital’s size and brought state of the art medical equipment to Seguin.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
Seguin is thirty minutes east of San Antonio and forty five minutes south of Austin. Seguin has easy access to two international airports, two deep water ports and to two interstate highways, I-10 running east-west and I-35 running north-south. Once State Highway 130 is completed, Seguin will have a direct route to Austin, allowing motorists to avoid the congestion on I-35.
Due to Seguin’s location, Seguin is a premier community for logistics and distribution. Products shipped from Seguin travel all across the United States and the world. The SEDC works to market Seguin’s strategic location to these businesses.
SUPPORT
The Seguin Economic Development Corporation is overseen by a Board of Directors that is composed of diverse business executives from throughout the community. The SEDC Board and staff work with industries to find the best incentive package that benefits both the community and the company.
Recently in December 2008, the SEDC provided an incentive package to Caterpillar, Inc. to bring a 1 million square foot engine assembly, test and paint facility. The plant began operations in June of 2010 and will employ 1465 employees by 2012. This project was the largest job creation in the state for the biennium of 2008-2009.
The SEDC has built strong working relationships with city, county, state, school district and utility officials and through its partnerships; SEDC can help prospective industries earn the most well rounded incentive package. SEDC has worked with state officials to get businesses the Enterprise Fund and Skills Development Fund, as well as worked with city and county officials on tax abatement agreements. SEDC has also worked with both local school districts to get approval of Triple Freeport, which is an incentive that will abate qualified inventory that is in Texas less than 175 days.
The SEDC also partners with a neighboring community to fund the Central Texas Technology Center. The CTTC offers specialized education and workforce skill development to meet the needs of existing and prospective industries. SEDC also funds the Manufacturing Technology Academy at the CTTC which offers dual credit courses and internships for high school juniors and seniors.
The Seguin Economic Development Corporation’s commitment and hard work has been recognized by other communities and the state. SEDC has received the Texas Economic Development Council’s Community Economic Development Award two consecutive years in a row, in 2009 for the recruitment of Caterpillar, Inc., and in 2010 for the retention and expansion of Continental Automotive Systems. The awards that the SEDC have been presented are a testament to its commitment to the future of Seguin.
The Seguin Economic Development Corporation and the Seguin community have all the necessary assets to make your business a success! We welcome you and your business to Seguin!
