Citizens Fire Academy
Why is a fire engine sent with an ambulance on a medical call? What is a sphygmomanometer? How much does all that firefighter gear weigh? These are some of the questions participants will have answered during the Citizens Fire Academy.
Topics are diverse and include the use of fire extinguishers, fire science, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire hose evolutions, fire investigations and much more. Many of the classes are hands-on, allowing participants to apply what they’re learning. There is an optional Saturday activity that includes CPR training. Persons attending the academy will also be given the opportunity to participate in ride out program to experience things first hand.
The academy is free and all equipment is provided for use. Participants must be 18 or older and a Seguin resident. Applications are available and being accepted at Fire Administration inside the Municipal Court building at 660 S. Hwy 46. Applications may also be obtained on the fire department page of the City of Seguin website. Space is limited and all applicants will undergo a background check and must sign a waiver. Once the course is filled, applicants will be placed on a waiting list for the next academy beginning in late September or early October.
